Goodwood FOS Saturday Event Canceled For The First Time In 30 Years

The event has been called off following a severe wind warning.

For the first time in 30 years, the Goodwood Festival of Speed's Saturday event has been canceled. The organizers had to close the event site due to strong winds that could affect the cars participating in the hill climb shootout and the eventgoers.

"It is with deep regret that we have taken the decision that the Goodwood Festival of Speed will not go ahead tomorrow (Saturday, July 15, 2023). After consulting meteorologists, health, and safety experts, and other key stakeholders, we have taken the decision to close the event due to severe wind warning in the Goodwood area," said Goodwood Festival of Speed on its website.

Thefestival has broughttogether stellar cars in West Sussex in the first two days, including theLe Mans-winning Mazda 787. The rotary club is also joined by the Mazda RX-7 of Mad Mike Whiddett, who drifted around the 1.17-mile hill climb course. Motorsport-spec cars such as the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 piloted by Welsh rally driver Elfyn Evans have also wowed spectators.

Car unveiling has also been carried out; Hyundai is showcasing the newIoniq 5 N, a more performance-oriented version of the EVwith 641 horsepower. Lamborghini revealed theSC63 Hypercar developed to competein endurance race series like the World Endurance Championship and America's IMSA series.

"This decision has not been made lightly, and His Grace, The Duke of Richmond, along with the whole Festival of Speed team, are deeply saddened that we will not run on Saturday for the first time in its 30th year history."
