Own a SuperCab? This affects you.

It's nearly impossible to go a single day without spotting aFord F-150in America. Even if you don't own one, chances are somebody you know does. AsAmerica's best-selling vehicle几十年来,the F-150 is a core vehicle for the Blue Oval and will continue to be for years to come. Theimmense popularityof the recently revealedF-150 Lightningis proof the full-size truck can thrive as a pure battery-electric.

But right now there's a potentially dangerous problem with a certain 2021 F-150 body style owners must know about. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has just announced a Ford recall for all 2021 F-150 SuperCabs.

The problem involves a misrouted seat belt that may fail to properly restrain an occupant in a crash, thus leading to potential injury. The Regular Cab and Crew Cabs are unaffected because they have different seat belt assemblies. These affected SuperCabs were all built between January 2, 2021 and May 27, 2021. A grand total of 16,430 examples are involved.

The defect is serious enough for Ford to advise these owners not to drive their trucks if they fail a preliminary self-assessment of the seat belts. Ford says it will begin notifying owners by mail with instructions on how to do this.

If the owner determines their truck's driver-side seat belt has failed the test, Ford recommends to quit driving it immediately. Easier said than done, we know. A proper repair will be performed by a Ford technician, though no exact dates for this have been announced. Those who believe their trucks are included can contact Ford's toll-free number (866-436-7332) or enter their vehicle's VIN on the safety agency's official website.

Either way, Ford will reach out shortly. Because seat belts are such a core safety device, Ford can't afford to take any chances. The announcement did not say if there have been any reported injuries.
