The future of delivery vehicles is silent.

We knew it was coming; after the reveal of theMustang Mach-Eand thepromise of an electric Ford F-150,蓝色的椭圆形已经公布了首次electric commercial vehicle - meet the Ford E-Transit. The Ford Transit itself needs no introduction - it's the best-selling cargo van in the world and a staple of small and large businesses across a variety of industries. Now, Ford's electrification movement has gotten a hold of the nameplate in a bid to save the environment and save businesses money. That's because, in addition to lower running costs, the Ford E-Transitstarts at under $45,000.

From a technical standpoint, the 2022 E-Transit is built on a dedicated electric platform and will be available in a variety of configurations including three roof heights and three lengths. Further customization in the form of chassis cab and cutaway variants will be made available too.

Powering the E-transit's rear wheels is an electric motor targeting outputs of 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, the latter delivered instantly, which will enable the electric van to haul loads in and around the city. That's right, the city - Ford hasn't developed this as a cross-country workhorse, and as such, the E-Transit is capable of only 126 miles on a charge in low-roof cargo van guise courtesy of a 57-kWh battery pack.

According to Ted Cannis, Ford North America general manager of commercial business, "This makes E-Transit ideal for commercial customers who know their drive routes and often work in urban environments." More than 30 million miles of customer telematics were considered before deciding on the right range for most fleet needs.

Ford says the E-Transit will have access to North America's largest public charging network to help counter the relatively small range figure, but the charging system onboard will also be massively helpful. The onboard Ford Mobile Charger plugs into a normal 120-volt outlet but can also connect to a 240V outlet to charge quicker. Furthermore, DC fast-charging capabilities grant 30 miles of range in just 10 mins and 45 miles range after just 15 mins of charging.

The onboard electrical systems also enable the E-Transit to operate as a mobile generator, with the Pro Power Onboard - tech we expect to feature on theelectric F-150- providing up to 2.4 kW of power for tools and equipment at various job sites.

As for capabilities, Ford hasn't yet confirmed towing capacities, but the brand has said that in the high-roof, extended-wheelbase model, up to 487.3 cubic feet of cargo space is available. The maximum payload of the van is a targeted 3,800 lbs, while cutaway versions increase this figure to 4,290 lbs.

The E-Transit will be loaded with advanced technology to make fleet-life easier, with available features including a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Ford Telematics, and Ford Data Services. The E-Transit also serves as the launch platform forFord's SYNC 4 infotainment suite在商业vehicles, sporting a 12-inch touchscreen with cloud-enhanced navigation, over-the-air updates, and full smartphone integration.

Ford's Co-Pilot360 safety technologies will keep drivers and cargo safe, too, with lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, speed sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, and more.

Ford is yet to confirm exact pricing, specifications, and all the details, but the E-Transit will start at an MSRP of under $45,000 for US fleet customers. All models will receive the backing of an eight-year/100,000-mile electric vehicle component warranty, while 645 commercial vehicle centers across the US will be equipped to work on the van. The E-Transit will silently roll out across the streets of the US towards the end of 2021 as a 2022 vehicle and will be a key model in the push towards carbon neutrality for the brand.

"Ford is North America and Europe's commercial truck and van leader, so the transition of fleet vehicles to zero emissions, especially for the fast-growing last-mile delivery segment, is critical to achieve our carbon neutrality goal by 2050," said Jim Farley, Ford CEO. "Ford is ready to lead the charge, starting with the all-electric Transit and all-electric F-150 on the way."
