Ford Promises New Electric Pickup Truck Will Be Impossibly Quick

Dubbed "Project T3," the new truck could resolve all the issues of the F-150 Lightning and then some.

In a recent video posted to Ford's social media channels, it has confirmed that its next electric pickup truck will be "an epic sequel to theFord F-150 Lightning." Ford announced "Project T3" earlier this year andhas slated it to arrive in 2025. It's set to be produced at the EV-only BlueOval City mega campus in West Tennessee, but any real details about the truck have been nonexistent so far.

In the video, for a split second, you can make out the silhouette of a truck in the background of the image. Other than the fact that it has four wheels and a silver color, nothing else is truly distinguishable besides the characteristic dip in the window line near the A-pillar that all F-150s share. We do know the brand aims to make it truly tough, as "T3" stands for "Trust The Truck," which itself has become the rallying cry for the engineers working on it.

The truck is slated to be the brand's first electric model on its own dedicated platform and thus should perform much better than the current Lightning pickup. The video promises it will be "sleek," "dynamic," and "impossibly quick," but buzzwords do little to get us really excited. The real question is, will whatever it's cooking up be enough once both the Silverado EV and Ram REV are on the scene?

Both models are promising over 650 horsepower, which shouldn't be a problem for the T3 to beat, but range and charging are a different story. Both models are promising over 400 miles of range, with the Ram even claiming 500. Additionally, both models are able to charge at speeds up to 350 kW, promising 100 miles of range in 10 minutes and bi-directional capability as well. Ford seems to think it will hit all of these marks and more, which if true, could put it at the top of the electric truck pack depending on where theCybertrucklands.

One thing Ford seemed to be pushing in the video is just how tough it plans the truck to be. The Blue Oval wants customers to be able to "Trust The Truck," and that all comes down to making a product that can withstand serious abuse and doesn't arrive with thesame production issues the Lightning has. CEO Jim Farley has taken a serious stance on bringing up the brand's quality, and this truck could be the first real test of whether the effort has worked.

BlueOval城市plant aims to have an annual capacity of 500,000 vehicles a year and streamlined production that will help to cut costs while creating 6,000 jobs in the region. By 2030, the electric variants ofthe Ranger and Broncowill be produced here as well.
