Famous Pontiac Trans Am Seized By The Feds

Movie car collectors are in for a treat, as several famous Hollywood cars are heading to auction soon. Both the famous 1968Ford Mustang GT Fastback driven by Steve McQueenandEleanor from Gone in 60 Secondswill be crossing the auction block next January. But before then, a rare opportunity to own theiconic Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandithas come up. In truth, it isn't one of the cars that were used in the movies, but it does have a very interesting history.

This custom 1978 Pontiac Trans Am hardtop was built for thelate Burt Reynoldsas a homage to the movie car and wears the famous black and gold livery. It's only clocked up 3,394 miles and features an autograph on the glove box signed by Reynolds that reads "Be Safe! Burt Reynolds."

What also sets this car apart, however, is that it's one of 149 classic and luxury vehicles that were seized by the feds last year as part of an investigation into an $800 million scandal by the now-defunct solar generators company DC Solar. These seized vehicles will be auctioned off byApple Auctioneeringin Woodland, California, this weekend.
