Curvaceous Jaguar C-Type Is Making A Comeback

Of all the classic Jaguars in existence, it's the E-Type that tends to garner the lion's share of attention. In fact, 2021 marks the 60th anniversary of the E-Type, an occasion that Jaguar intends tocelebrate in style. But even before the E-Type arrived, there was theC-Type racing car.

Once driven by the legendary racing driver Sir Stirling Moss, the C-Type has a proud heritage. The Scottish racing team Ecurie Ecosse has intimate ties to the C-Type, having attained 59 podium finishes with seven C-Type chassis in the 1950s. Now, they're producing seven continuation models of the C-Type racing car. Elements of the C-Type's design still inspire newer Jags like the latestF-Typeto this day.

As a homage to the team's incredible triumphs, the Ecurie Ecosse team says the new cars will "retain all the key elements" of the original. There will be a couple of changes, though, with a broader and stiffer steel spaceframe chassis that will be laser-cut to ensure precision.

The Jag inline-six XK engine will return as well, but fuel injection will be added and the capacity will be increased to 4.2-liters for a maximum output of 300 horsepower. Because of this, both the disc brakes and suspension were upgraded to handle the extra grunt. A five-speed gearbox will be added as well, and is claimed to "maximize acceleration and top speed."
