BMW X7's Updates Will Spark Lots Of Debate

More details have arrived.

On the market since 2018, theBMW X7is nearly due for a mid-life facelift. As the competition is fiercer than ever, life-cycle updates are happening more frequently and we can probably expect to see the更新X7arrive for the 2022 model year. And now, for the second time since September, our spy photographers have snapped pictures of a refreshed X7 prototype out testing, this time in Munich, Germany. What's become clearly evident is that the X7 will see some major changes up front.

The close-up shot seems to indicate the new look strongly resembles that of the refreshed7 Seriesand theupcoming X8, which is also X7-based. This means it's entirely possible BMW's flagship sedan and SUVs will soon share a common look.

The question is whether this styling will eventually trickle its way down to additional models. Time will tell. Looking more closely at the updated front end, we can see the lights are sitting lower while the grille appears to be slightly wider. Changes to the hood could also indicate a new split headlight design, perhaps something similar to the new Hyundai Santa Fe and new Genesis models.

Changes to the rear end seem to be far less dramatic. Chances are they will be limited to some new light graphics and a restyled rear bumper. Although we don't have photos available at this time, sources claim numerous interior changes are also in store.

At the very least, expect an upgraded infotainment system and more driver-assist safety technologies. It's still known whether BMW has any engine changes and/or upgrades lined up. The current X7 comes powered with a standard 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque, a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 456 hp and 479 lb-ft, or 523 hp and 553 lb-ft in the M50i.

As of now, no X7 M appears to be on the horizon, though we wouldn't be surprised to see an X8 M debut in order to take the fight to the Audi RS Q8.
