Get ready to see some more colorful BMW M2s.

Speaking with BMW spokespeople at Monterey Car Week,CarBuzzlearned that the2024 BMW M2will soon gain BMW Individual Paint options. This is important news because the M2 has never been available with Individual paint since it was introduced in 2015. Car Collector Michael Fux (who isknown for his outrageous taste) was somehow able to write BMW a blank check for the only Austin Yellow F87 M2, but other than that car, no other custom paint M2 examples exist from the factory.

The previous M2 was built at BMW's Leipzig, Germany plant, which could not produce Individual paints then. BMW did say at the time thatit would be open to adding Individual colorsto the M2 in the future if there was customer demand. The story was the same for the current M2, which is nowbuilt at the San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico, but that is about to change.

The aforementioned spokespeople told us, "Individual colors will be added to the Mexico plant, and it will be available for the M2."

This will open up the M2, which has always had a limited color palette, to some interesting possibilities. Our minds go right to classic BMW M2 colors like Laguna Seca Blue from the E46 M3, Dakar Yellow from the E36 M3, Fire Orange from the E92 M3Lime Rock Park Edition, and even Thundernight Metallic from the standard2 Series Coupe, which is one of ourfavorite colors of 2023. Just check out how good some of these colors look in these renderings fromBimmerpost.

As of this writing, the only M2 colors currently available include Alpine White, Zandvoort Blue, Black Sapphire Metallic, Toronto Red Metallic, and Brooklyn Grey Metallic. Frozen Portimao Blue and Frozen Pure Grey were reportedly added for 2024 but do not currently show up on the configurator. Those colors can be paired with either black or bi-color wheels measuring 19 inches up front and 20 inches in the back.

BMW did not specify when the San Luis Potosi plant would gain the ability to handle Individual color requests, though we assume it will likely be sometime in 2024. It's likely that the option would also be made available to other BMW vehicles built in Mexico, including the non-M 2 Series Coupe and 3 Series Sedan.

Individual colors can range in price depending on whether or not BMW has to create the color from scratch. For a previously available color like the ones we mentioned, you should expect to pay around $4,500. The price can increase significantly if you want BMW to create a new color from scratch. We'd say it's well worth the upgrade for uniqueness and resale value.
