BMW iM2 Coming With Over 1,300 Horsepower

Rumor /13 Comments

BMW plans to celebrate its half-century in style.

No matter how you feel about its recent styling choices, BMW is still one of the greatest manufacturers of sports cars out there. Cars like theBMW M2 CSare reminders of why a simple recipe of a rear-wheel-drive layout and a six-cylinder engine under the hood is the best. But, as good as cars like that are, manufacturers have had to start considering an electric future, and that includes BMW's M Division. We've heard rumors in the past ofan electric M5, we've seen what an米-enhanced i4might look like, and now it's time to turn our attention to an iM2, orelectric version of the M2.

We first found out about such a vehicleback in 2017, but now there are new rumors and they're really exciting. Next year,BMW M celebrates its 50th birthday, and according toCar Magazine,这一事件将会看到宝马展示一个全新的,all-electric performance coupe called the iM2, and get this - it'll have 1,000 kilowatts. Converted to horsepower, that's a whopping 1,341 ponies. Now we must point out that these rumors and figures have not yet been verified by anyone at BMW, but it is possible thatCar Magazinehas an exclusive story. Then again, over 1,000 hp in a car as small as the M2 seems more than a little excessive.

Nevertheless, the rumors seem to have some substance, with reports saying that the iM2 has an internal code name, 'Project Katharina', and will accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Supposedly, the car is capable of spinning its wheels at speeds of around 75 mph. If that is true, then it seems that the car may be rear-wheel-drive. Other sources say that the car will still be able to lap the Nurburgring in around 6 minutes and 50 seconds. It all sounds too good to be true and would translate to a very expensive, limited-production, specialist sports car if it is. Perhaps the truth is that BMW will create an M2 CSL, but with the i moniker included too. Only time will tell.
