Spy shots have confirmed BMW is preparing to unleash an全电动版本的next-generation 7 Seriesthat will be the Bavarian automaker's answer to the electric Mercedes EQS. Rumors have suggested the electricBMW 7 Serieswill be called the i7, but now Japan's Spyder7 claims to know the model names of the entire next-generation BMW 7 Series and i7 lineup. According to the publication, there will be three variants of the i7 available: the i740i, i750i, and i7 M60.

That's a huge boost over the current M760i xDrive range-topper, which is powered by a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 producing 600 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. Despite its potent performance, the i7 M60 will allegedly last over 400 miles on a single charge. Technical details of the i740i and i750i haven't been confirmed, but previous reports have claimed one of these less powerful variants will have a lower range of around 300 miles and produce around 536 hp.

As for the combustion-powered model, the outlet claims the new 7 Series will be offered in 735d, 740i, 745e, and M750e flavors, but no technical specifications were revealed.

Apart from the rear-wheel-drive 735d and 740i, all models will reportedly feature BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Fromspy shots of prototypesundergoing testing, it looks like the next-generation BMW 7 Series and its electric i7 sibling will feature slimmer headlights and a larger grille, but we're hoping it won't be as large as the 4 Series' controversial grille. Judging from the amount of sensors fitted to the prototypes, the i7 will have advanced autonomous technology on par with the iX flagship SUV.

To help it compete with the redesignedMercedes S-Class, the new 7 will reportedly be offered with premium options normally reserved for Rolls-Royce cars such as an illuminated grille and fully automatic doors. The new BMW 7 Series and i7 are expected to debut either later this year or in early 2022.
