Bentley Blower Reborn As Shrunken City-Going EV

Offbeat /4 Comments

The 85 percent scale recreation of the 1929 4½-litre Supercharged Bentley is road legal, fully electric, and boasts a 65-mile range.

Way before the likes of the refined and ultra-luxuryBentley Continental GTor the Flying Spur, there was the brusque and humongous Blower 4.4-liter. While looking more like a carriage than a car, it is undoubtedly iconic. It's so iconic, in fact, that the brand revived it (again) by releasing the Bentley Blower Jnr, a miniature version of the relatively huge mid-century sporty coach.

Made in collaboration between Bentley's Heritage Collection andcar miniaturization specialistThe Little Car Company, the Blower Jnr is a faithful homage to "the fastest lorry in the world," according to Ettore Bugatti. It is an 85 percent scale of the original vehicle using the same ladder chassis found on the larger, older car. It even gets leaf springs and period-correct friction dampers. And it is road legal in Britain, European countries, and the US.

Meanwhile, the body of this tiny 1+1 seater is made using a combination of modern and traditional methods. Its aluminum hood is traditionally crafted and fastened to the vehicle by leather straps. The body, meanwhile, is built out of carbon fiber instead of the original ash wood. It then features a two-seater interior layout with a smaller version of the original Bentley's dashboard.

The biggest change Bentley employed on the more compact Blower Jnr is its engine (or the lack thereof). Instead of the original 4.4-liter supercharged inline-4, it gets a rear-mounted 15-kilowatt electric motor making 20 horsepower. According to the Crewe-based company, it can reach 45 mph in the UK and European markets. Meanwhile, those bound for the US are limited to a speed of 25 mph due to road laws.

It also has a range of 65 miles. Pathetic by modern EV standards, but the vehicle is intended as an in-city jaunter or a fun toy to cruise around town in slowly.

Production of the Blower Jnr will start in the second quarter of 2024, with prices yet to be announced. Initial examples will be rolled out with the special 99 First Edition models sporting a unique green-colored paint job, a rope-bound steering wheel, and a Dark Green Lustrana leather interior.

This isn't the first time Bentley has reincarnated the Blower. Thefirst rebuild was introducedback in 2020. More recently, the full-size resurrected car modelentered various motorsports eventsin Europe, including at the famous Spa race track in Belgium from September 28 to 30.
