A little bit of extra body plastic definitely adds a dose of ruggedness.

Many would argue that it was the Subaru Outback that started this whole crossover craze that's been sweeping the auto industry for several years now. But unlike so many other CUVs on the market that come with standard front-wheel-drive, the Outback, like all Subarus (BRZ excluded) is all-wheel-drive. So it certainly has some off-road credentials. And now the Australian market Outback – appropriate name for that country, we know – has just been given a styling upgrade for this model year.

It comes complete with new roof rails, enhanced wheel arches, more body cladding and some additional underbody protection. This rugged appearance package is not standard, and will supposedly cost Australian buyers an extra $2,300 or so. However, it's very unlikely Subaru will offer these enhancements on the US-spec Outback because an all-new model will debut in less than a year. True, the new Outback will also premiere in Australia at around the same time, but for whatever reason, Subaru is making this body package exclusively for those Down Under.
