Deliveries of the EV6 jumped by 49 percent.
This week, we've seen mixed fortunes as various automakers reported their sales figures for March and the first quarter of 2022. Audi hasstruggled to keep up with rival BMWand Volvo also sawits sales numbers decline.然而,届e Korean brands are flying.Hyundai reported record salesand Kia has seen remarkable growth too. Kia's sales figures reflect continued demand for its SUV lineup and a particularly fast rate of growth for its electrified models. March returned record sales for Kia's electrified models with a 55 percent increase over the previous record. Overall, however, Kia sold 59,524 cars in March, down from 66,523 in March 2021.
In March, Kia sold 3,156 units of theEV6.For the year, the EV6 has now registered 5,281 sales. In just its second month in showrooms, EV6 sales increased by nearly 50%. The Niro was similarly impressive, notching 3,964 sales in March to take its tally to 9,226 for the year so far. The complete Niro lineup's sales jumped by 32 percent over its previous record monthly sales.
In March, Kia's top-selling model was the Forte sedan with 9,609 units, followed by theSportage(7,778) and Telluride (7,668). Other strong contributions came from the K5/Optima (5,470), Sorento (6,238), and Soul (5,175). Considering its starting price of over $30,000, it's remarkable that the Telluride is nearly the best-selling model for Kia in 2022 (22,076 units, behind only the Forte at 23,498).
"There is an incredibly positive energy surrounding the Kia brand right now as we continue to outpace the industry and gain market share despite ongoing industry challenges," said Eric Watson, vice president, sales operations, Kia America. He likened the brand's rapid growth of electrified models to that of its SUVs a few years ago. Electrified Kias had their best March and best quarter ever.
Less positive were sales of the engaging Stinger sedan at 1,026 units, making it the worst-selling Kia model in the USA. However, the Stinger's overall 2022 sales (3,107) are actually better than for the same period last year (2,444). More reflective of the downward sedan trend in the market is the K5/Optima that moved 17,822 units so far in 2022, down from 20,394 a year ago.
