All New Volvo XC90 Gets New Name And New Look

If you want a family SUV that's also safe and luxurious, look no further than theVolvo XC90。Thanks to an uncluttered design, the styling has kept the Swede fresh - it's hard to believe the XC90 debuted seven years ago.

So when a refreshed XC90 surfaced on the web recently, it stirred our curiosity. While the pictures appear to be patent images, we're yet to confirm whether these are official designs that Volvo has trademarked. However,Motor1recently uncovered a filing for the name EXC90 that suggests the automaker is working on a successor to the family hauler.

Details are scarce, but the application - filed under "electric vehicles" - makes a lot of sense. Volvo has saidthe XC90 lineup will soldier on, but gain an electric variant and some styling tweaks.

These unofficial images appear to share the existing model's silhouette, but with different details. It's clear to see Volvo has taken design inspiration from Polestar models. The front end in particular shares a striking resemblance with thehigh-performance Polestar 5。

If this is the EXC90, it would explain the lack of Volvo's vertical bar grille. Round back, however, you'll find one of the biggest changes. Ever since it was introduced in 2002, the XC90 has worn vertical taillights. The design seen here boasts a far more contemporary design with an incorporated light bar. The shape of the cluster itself has traces of C40 and S90 in the design.
