The Type S is pretty beefy, but the A-Spec is not bad either.

  • A-Spec offers up to 340 horsepower, Type S up to 500 hp
  • Up to 325 miles of range
  • Prices start around $60,000
  • Deliveries start early 2024

One year on from presenting thePrecision EV Conceptat Monterey Car Week in 2022, Acura has returned to the lawns of Pebble Beach with the production version, which is called theAcura ZDX. Designed at the Acura Design Studio in California, the ZDX looks a lot like the aforementioned concept and promises up to 325 miles of range and as much as 500 hp.

Two trims will be available: A-Spec and Type S. The former will be offered with two motor configurations, while the latter is AWD only. Importantly, the ZDX is the first fruit of Acura's partnership with GM on EV development, using the same Ultium underpinnings as seen on models like the凯迪拉克Lyriq- one of the ZDX's prime rivals.

Orders will open later this year, and deliveries are scheduled for early 2024, so let's see what buyers can expect.

The regular ZDX gets 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-season rubber, while the Type S features 22-inch machine-finished wheels. Summer rubber is optionally available on gloss black wheels. While we're here, the Type S also gets Brembo front brakes with 15.6-inch rotors, and the six-piston calipers are painted a vibrant yellow hue. Another subtle change is that the ZDX A-Spec gets coil suspension while the Type S upgrades to air - just like the MDX Type S.

Performance and Range

As standard, the Acura ZDX gets a single motor on the rear axle. This produces an estimated 340 hp, or you can have it with a dual-motor, all-wheel drive configuration, but power outputs for this variant have not yet been released. The Type S version will offer an estimated 500 hp from two motors, and multiple drive modes will keep things interesting.

A 102-kilowatt-hour battery pack with 190 kW DC fast charging offers up to 81 miles of range in 10 minutes on the A-Spec RWD. The entry-level model also offers up to 325 miles of range on the EPA cycle. Other variants' range estimates will follow in due course.

Interior

As announced last month, the ZDX is the first Acura to get Bang & Olufsen audio. An 18-speaker system includes four speakers in the headliner and a 14-channel amplifier, as well as a subwoofer for those deep, bassy notes. The Acoustic Lens Technology is claimed to disperse high frequencies horizontally 180 degrees while limiting vertical reflections. This, says Acura, improves the audio quality for all passengers. Brushed aluminum speaker grilles with the B&O logo add a touch more style.

Interacting with the audio system is done via an 11.3-inch infotainment displaywith Google built-in, a first for Acura. An 11-inch driver display also finds its way to the cabin, and the expected wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions have been integrated.

AcuraWatch 360+ offers hands-free driving assistance for the first time on an Acura product and also provides automatic parallel parking.

Pricing and Availability

Acura says that pricing for the entry-level ZDX A-Spec will start "in the $60,000 range." The Type S will be costlier, starting in the $70,000 range. "Pre-sale activities," meaning order banks opening and more marketing taking place, will begin later this year, with deliveries planned for early 2024.

"The arrival of the new ZDX is an exciting moment for the Acura brand," said Emile Korkor, assistant VP of Acura National Sales. "It signals our transition to a zero-emissions future and demonstrates our commitment to Precision Crafted Performance in the electrified era."

This new era will see theZDX sold online only, so if you like shaking hands on buying a new car, you'll have to opt for something else.
