A New Toyota Sequoia Is FINALLY Coming

Toyota just teased the "next big thing." That's all we know. The Japanese automaker showed a dim teaser image of a new model, shown below in red. The only other information presented in the press release says, "something big is coming to the Toyota SUV lineup. A clear picture will come into view soon. Stay tuned."

Based on production timing, we believe this new SUV is the2022 Toyota Sequoia, an SUV that's long overdue for a replacement.

The current second-generation Sequoia debuted back in 2007, making it the oldest vehicle in Toyota's lineup. Toyota has given theSequoia a few notable updateslike TRD-Pro and Nightshade Edition trims, but none of these changes can hide the aged platform.

Why do we believe this is the new Sequoia and not another SUV like the 4Runner or rumored Highlander Max? Well, Toyota was recently spottedtesting a prototype Sequoia with a trailer,使用苔原作为支持vehicle.

Just like the current model, this new Sequoia will be based on the same platform as the Tundra pickup truck, utilizing Toyota's new TNGA-F architecture. The Sequoia will also be built on the same assembly line in San Antonio, Texas.

Judging by the teaser, the new Sequoia will receive the angular styling treatment given to the latest Tundra. We expect Toyota to offer seven- and eight-seat configurations with various trim levels, including an off-road-focused TRD Pro variant.
