The 88 lbs body will be powered by an 800-horsepower V8.

In the automotive world, few people are as respected and admired as the late Caroll Shelby. His company, Shelby Automotive, is known for creating some truly outlandish vehicles, such as theFord Mustang Shelby GT500andhigh-performance variants of the F-150 Raptor. But the company is perhaps best known for the legendary Cobra.

Using the British AC Ace roadster as a foundation, Shelby went on to create the Cobra, a V8-powered road-going rocket that enjoyed great success in the SCCA US Road Racing Championship. These days, examplesswap hands for millions of dollars. Now, in honor of Shelby American's 60th anniversary, Oklahoma-based Classic Recreations is creating just ten special edition Cobras, made from carbon fiber. Called the Diamond Edition, the body weighs just 88 lbs and will produce 800 horsepower. The price? A cool $1.2 million.

The incredible performance is courtesy of a Ford Performance Gen 3 Coyote 5.0-liter engine. To reach the extraordinary figure of 800 hp, a VMP Supercharger is fitted for good measure. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a T56 Magnum six-speed manual box and, while performance figures are currently unavailable, the lightweight body and powerful engine certainly sound promising.

Underneath the gorgeous bodywork, Classic Recreations is utilizing an independent rear suspension setup with coilovers at the front and rear. Stopping power is provided by Wilford, with six-piston calipers up front and four at the rear. Forgeline wheels and BF Goodrich tires will sit underneath the sculpted body.

Despite the fact that the Diamond Edition won't be street legal, the custom shop hasn't neglected the snug cabin, with plans to combine soft leather, a polished wood-rim steering wheel, and chrome inlays with classic muscle car instruments.

To highlight just how truly special this car is, all ten examples will be fitted with a unique diamond-encrusted badge, along with a commemorative Carroll Shelby signature on the dashboard. There's no denying $1.2 million is a lot of money to spend on a car, especially one that can't be taken out on public roads. But with the level of workmanship, promised performance, and exclusivity, there are definitely ten enthusiasts out there willing to bite the pricey bullet.

That being said, there is any number of specialists across the country who can offer you all the style of the Cobra for not so much outlay. The example pictured below,Superformance Mk III-E Cobra, is perhaps one of the more unique variants. While it looks spectacular, purists will scoff at the powertrain. Instead of a mighty V8, the Mk III-E Cobra is powered by an electric motor from the Tesla Model S P100D. With around 1,000 lb-ft of torque on tap, it may be silent but it's mesmerizingly quick.
