2025 Ram 1500 REV Smashes F-150 Lightning's Towing And Range Estimates

Built on the new STLA Frame platform with a sturdy body-on-frame design, the Ram has two 335-horsepower electric drive modules (EDMs) combining the motor, gearbox, and inverter. A flexible all-wheel-drive system will allow the front wheels to spin freely depending on conditions, while the rear EDM is available with an electronic-locking rear differential.

As with the gas-powered Ram 1500, we expect the 1500 REV to be one of the most comfortable pickups around. It will have a multi-link independent rear suspension equipped as standard and a segment-exclusive active-level four-corner air suspension with adaptive damping.

This adjustable air suspension will not only contribute to impressive road manners but also includes an Entry/Exit mode that will improve ingress and egress. Aero, Normal, Off-Road 1, and Off-Road 2 modes are also available.

The Ram 1500 REV wants to blow the F-150 Lightning and Silverado EV out of the water when it comes to range. The standard truck has a 168-kilowatt-hour battery pack delivering a targeted range of up to 350 miles; the Ford has a maximum EPA-rated range of 320 miles, and Chevrolet claims 400 miles for the Silverado EV. But the big news is that the REV can be optioned with an enormous 229-kWh battery delivering up to 500 miles.

The only other production EV that comes close to that battery size is the Hummer EV Pickup with its 205-kWh battery pack, which alreadycosts a pretty penny to chargeat a public fast-charging station. Still, 500 miles for an electric pickup is very impressive, and even with some towing, the REV should still have a decent range.

Ram made mention of a REV XR "to follow" at a later stage which will have a "class-shattering range." This won't be a pure-electric truck but is instead likely to be thepromised range-extender modelwith a small gas engine that acts as a generator.

When it arrives, the Ram 1500 REV will offer some of the fastest charging speeds in the industry. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture and maximum DC fast charging of up to 350 kW, both batteries can add up to 110 miles of range in only 10 minutes. Here, we must mention the F-150 Lightning yet again; it can charge at up to 150 kW, and 10 minutes of charging for certain models will only yield around 54 miles of range, so the Ram can add roughly double the range in the same amount of time.

The charging port for the Ram is positioned on the driver's side front quarter panel, with the top half dedicated to Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging and the bottom for DC fast charging.

The truck will also offer vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-home, and vehicle-to-grid bi-directional charging. This allows it to power small appliances, charge another EV, or even your home. A 7.2-kW onboard power panel is situated in the bed area, and there is a 3.6-kW socket that's available in the frunk.

In front, the new one-touchpower-operated frunkmeasures 15 cubic feet, surpassing the F-150 Lightning's 14.1 cubes. The new 1500 REV has a body-side character line that stretches all the way from front to back, and it rides on 20- or 22-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.

Five trims - Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Limited, and Tungsten - will be available, but only the Tungsten has a new power tailgate as standard. More storage is provided in the available RamBox which is illuminated, weatherproof, lockable, and has a 115-volt outlet.

Ram did not, however, reveal the size or total cargo capacity of the bed, so the 1500 REV may not be the best in these specific aspects.

Finally, we can get a closer look at the interior of this new pickup. As with its gas-powered sibling, Ram once again set out to create a luxurious, refined space with premium materials and attractive color schemes. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the new Tungsten trim - think of it as Ram'sanswer to the Toyota Tundra Capstoneor GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate - with its Indigo/Sea Salt colorway, dual-textured metal accents with diamond knurling, and suede-wrapped headliner.

This model has quilted leather seats that are 24-way power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated in front. The seats even have powered headrests and massage functions. The Tungsten boasts dual wireless chargers and a Klipsch Reference Premiere sound system with 23 speakers.

But it's not just the Tungsten that enjoys all the spoils, as this is the most advanced Ram pickup range yet. Depending on the model, the REV 1500 comes with either 12- or 14.5-inch reconfigurable touchscreens with split-screen functionality. A new 10.25-inch passenger-side screen is available with the ability for this passenger to access navigation and entertainment features. This passenger can even view the exterior via the external cameras. Underpinning these screens is the user-friendly Uconnect 5 infotainment software.

Expanding the total screen real estate is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10-inch color head-up display. Ram has not explicitly stated which of these features may be standard or optional.

Being an electric pickup, the manufacturer's EV Pages provides a surfeit of information about the electric drivetrain, including power flow, charging level, driving history, and a lot more. Elsewhere, customers will find an e-shifter, new regen buttons, and a redesigned starter button.

A variety of driver-assistance technologies will be available, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and more. The truck is also capable of One Pedal Driving that can bring it to a stop without needing to depress the brake pedal at all.

If the Ram 1500 REV went on sale today at a competitive price - pricing remains unknown at this stage - its specs would instantly send it to the top of the class. The one consolation for its rivals is that it's only expected to be released late in 2024. By then, Ford and Rivian may have had time to work on their own offerings to bring it up to speed with the new Ram.
