2024 Subaru BRZ tS Gets All The STI Upgrades Except A Turbo

Special Editions /Comments

The "sharper and more focused" BRZ didn't disappoint... at least on paper.

  • STI-tuned suspension
  • High-performance Brembo brakes
  • Bespoke interior and exterior styling elements
  • EyeSight driver-assist technology on a manual for the first time

When Subaru teased a more hardcore version of theBRZlast week, we seriously hoped the automaker would deliver, and with the 2024 Subaru BRZ tS, it has. This is the closest you'll get to an STI version of the BRZ, with upgraded suspension, better brakes, and unique styling elements. The only thing missing is a turbo.

Standing for "tuned by STI," the tS badge isn't just an ornament seen on the front grille and rear decklid. While not as perfect as theSTI-tuned BRZ in Japan, Subaru equipped the US-spec BRZ tS with a Brembo brake kit with gold calipers behind 18-inch dark gray rims, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

Beyond braking, the BRZ tS also has STI-tuned suspension partnered with Hitachi dampers - a stark contrast to its twin, theToyota GR86, which offers Sachs dampers with itssporty Performance Pack.

The BRZ's large air intake up front, the streamlined shape, and the "ducktail" trunk spoiler complete the appearance on the outside. The mirror caps and the shark's fin antenna have a Crystal Black Silica finish. While the model you see here is painted traditional Subie blue, the BRZ tS is available for all the sports coupe's color options for the 2024 model year.

Based on the Limited trim, the BRZ tS comes with tS exclusive blue stitching to distinguish it from the standard models, along with an STi badge on the driver's digital display.

There isn't any update under the hood, so the 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated Boxer four-cylinder still produces 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque sent to the rear axle through a Torsen limited-slip differential. While a six-speed auto is available on the regular BRZ, the tS is sold exclusively with three pedals. Even better, the award-winning EyeSight safety suite isnow equipped to manual cars.

Subaru's EyeSight driver-assist technology adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking system, lane departure and sway warning, and lead vehicle start alert. All these features will be available to all BRZs equipped with a manual transmission, not just on the tS.

Pricing and availability of the BRZ tS will be announced later this year, but expect it to be more expensive than the Limited's $31,095 MSRP.
