How does it stack up against its competitors?

Pricing has just been announced for the upcoming 2024Honda HR-Vwith the vehicle now starting at $24,100 for the LX trim, $300 more than the 2023 model. All trims have risen in price by $300, with the Sport trim rising to $26,200 and the EX-L trim now $28,200. All trims will also include a $1,295 destination fee, and AWD can be added to any trim for an additional $1,500.

These price bumps come after thenew generation arrivedin 2023 bringing with it a much better ride and improved interior thanks to the vehicle now sitting on the same platform as the Civic. Due to this, we can understand why the changes for the 2024 model year are practically nonexistent, but still, how does the new pricing fare against its competitors?

The subcompact crossover segment is a lucrative one for automakers, which explains why there are so many options on the market like the Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30, Toyota Corolla Cross, Kia Seltos, Chevy Trax, Subaru Crosstrek, and more. Jacking up hatchbacks, and putting some underbody cladding on them prints money, even when your product leaves a lot to be desired.

The HR-V, although a serious improvement over the outgoing model, still has some glaring flaws that become more apparent when comparing it to its competitors. The vehicle is still underpowered, and the CVT, although helping fuel economy, doesn't inspire any sense of enjoyment as screams trying to get as much power as possible from the engine.

Some of the models haven't had their 2024 pricing released yet, but even comparing it to last year's pricing it appears the HR-V will most likely come in a little more expensive than most of its competitors.

Its biggest competitor will surely be the Subaru Crosstrek. Starting at $24,995 for the 2024 model year, it comes in nearly $900 more than the HR-V, but what it lacks in value it makes up in style and adventurous confidence. The model offers a decent engine upgrade, standard AWD, and solid ground clearance that makes it an attractive buy. It sells like crazy, and we don't see that changing anytime soon.

Out of all its competitors, the best deal is surely the new 2024 Chevy Trax. Starting at just $20,400 before destination and topping out at $23,900, you'll be able to get into a top model of the Trax before you can even get into the base model of the HR-V. The vehicle is FWD only and the sole engine option is a 137 hp, 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, but we imagine its place as a value option will help it make a name for itself when it hits the market.

其他固体选项will be the Toyota Corolla Cross, Mazda CX-30, and Hyundai Kona. None of the three have announced their updated pricing just yet, but in 2023 all three came in cheaper than the HR-V with prices of $23,060, $22,950, and $22,140 respectively compared to the HR-V's $23,800. We imagine the trend will continue into 2024, which will again be a blow to the HR-V as the three offer power, style, and character that the HR-V doesn't have.

Honda says that the HR-V is the best seller in the subcompact SUV segment among Millenial customers and also has a solid percentage of Gen Y buyers as well. We have no doubt the vehicle's new looks and abilities are adding to these sales, but competitors like the Kona are alsocoming in with serious changesfor 2024.

The HR-V offers a simplified trim structure and a solid vehicle that has added much-needed refinement over the previous generation, but compared to its competitors it still leaves some room for improvement.
