2024 Acura ZDX To Debut At Monterey Car Week

In standard and Type S trims.

Acura will introduce the all-electric 2024ZDXon August 17 during thefamous Monterey Car Week. As a taster of what to expect, Acura sent out a teaser image and video of its first EV, which was styled at the Acura Design Studio in Southern California.

The debut will take place exactly one year after Acura introduced thePrecision EV Concept, and it's clear the production car will have a lot in common with the design preview. It won't have quite as many LED lights illuminating the front, but Acura has found a way to evolve and illuminate its well-known Diamond Pentagon grille.

Because it's an electric vehicle, it doesn't require the same gaping air intakes as the Integra Type S or the functional pentagonal grille that features prominently on other models. Still, Acura found a way to retain its design DNA even without a functional grille.

Acura says both the standard ZDX and ZDX Type S performance models will go on sale early next year, boasting two significant firsts for the company. The ZDX will be the first Acura to benefit from theintegration of Google built-in, which is slowly but surely standardizing and revolutionizing interior interfaces.

The ZDX will also debut the result of a collaboration between Acura and Bang & Olufsen. Acuraannounced the collaborationearlier this year, stating that the Danish luxury audio brand was working on an "elevated in-vehicle audio experience."

Whatever this product is, it will expand to other models in the coming years. If we had to guess, Acura approached Bang & Olufsen to help create interior soundscapes for its electric vehicles. With the sounds of internal combustion quickly dissipating, interior sound systems will play a far more critical role in the future. For reference, listen to what Hyundai's N Division came up with for itsfirst performance EV.

As for powertrain setup and output, we're still in the dark. Acura promised that the ZDX would be tested extensively to ensure that it's fun, and now it has stated that the ZDX Type S will be the most powerful and quickest accelerating SUV in the brand's history. Admittedly, that's not a very high bar. But, with Ultium underpinnings from General Motors, the ZDX could theoretically be capable of 1,000 horsepower. However, we expect the Type S only to boast 557 horsepower - matching the Chevrolet Blazer EV in SS trim.

"Acura's unyielding commitment to delivering on the Precision Crafted Performance brand promise will continue in the electrified future, exemplified by Type S models that put the driver experience first," said Emile Korkor, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales. "As the most powerful and quickest accelerating SUV in the brand's history, the ZDX Type S will deliver on this promise and bring an exhilarating driving experience to the electric vehicle market."
