2018 Ford GT Doubles In Price In Just Two Years

It's still more than the owner paid for it.

There's been a lot of chatter surrounding the2020 Ford GTand itsnow-infamous contractto prevent owners from selling the car before two years. Some owners, like约翰·希纳, broke that contract, but now, that time has expired, and all bets are off. Expect to see plenty of Ford GT examples coming up for auction over the next several months and years, including a recent example that just sold at Mecum.

The Mecum classic and collector car auction in Kissimmee, Florida just concluded, racking up $18.6 million in overall sales, well below last year's total. More than 800 vehicles crossed the block over three days with a 65% sell-through rate as 518 cars hammered sold. The most expensive car sold at the event was a 2018 Ford GT (Lot S120) for $935,000.

This particular GT, anall-white example with no stripes, was only driven 97 miles despite Ford's insistence that GT owners put miles on their cars. It also features more than $70,000 worth of options over the $450,000 original MSRP. Managing to double in price just two years likely put a smile on the original owner's face, and the $935,000 selling price seems in-line with what other GTs sold for recently.

The second-most-expensive car was also a Ford GT, a 2006 Heritage Edition that went for $412,500. Other top sellers at Mecum included a 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren for $203,500,a 1969 Dodge Daytona for $198,000, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback for $187,000, a 1934 Packard Coupe Roadster for $176,000, and a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner for $176,000.

Unlike last year's auction, this year's Kissimmee even failed to bring in any cars over seven figures. Mecum continues to host live events, despite the ongoing global pandemic, but says it ensures a "safe and comfortable auction atmosphere" for attendees. The company's next auction takes place in Dallas, Texas, from October 15-17 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
