The next-generation 2012 Holden Colorado will be launched mid-year in Australia and first details of the light truck have just been released. Three body styles will make up the range in the form of a single cab, space cab and crew cab, and customers will get the choice of two all-new 2.5-liter and 2.8-liter DOHC in-line 4 turbo diesel engines. The latter has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg and when paired with the optional six-speed automatic transmission produces 10 percent more power and 40 percent more torque than the outgoing 3.0-liter diesel powertrain. An extensive array of safety features come as standard across the range such as driver and front passenger airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and electronic stability control. Inside the pickups gets Bluetooth connectivity, a/c, power windows, and an iPod compatible audio system.

The new Colorado is currently undergoing engineering tests. John Elsworth, Holden Executive Director Sales, Marketing and Aftersales said: "A number of new Colorados are already out on the road gathering important data on engine and transmission performance, drive quality and suspension tune. "The new Colorado is a new era for Holden LCVs and will play a vital role in our product renaissance. We're so excited about its performance as a tough, daily workhorse and active recreational vehicle that we wanted to preview the range as soon as possible. This is the most impressive light truck ever designed by General Motors."
