Seating and Interior Space

The F-450 seats three people in the Regular Cab, and either five or six in the Crew Cab, depending on the trim or options chosen. XL and XLT models have a 40/20/40 split-folding front bench, with the Lariat trim and above replacing this bench with two bucket seats and a sizable center console.

The F-450 uses its large dimensions well, with headroom and legroom sufficient for all occupants. Legroom at the back of the Crew Cab is especially good. Seating comfort is average for lower trims, improving as you go up the range, although cushioning, in general, could be plusher. Finding a comfortable driving position is aided by a tilt and telescoping steering wheel column, with power operation on the more expensive trims. Ingress and egress can be trickier for children or older people, as the F-450 sits high off the ground and requires some effort to climb into and extra care when getting out. Side steps, well-sized door openings, and grab handles do help, however.

Interior Colors and Materials

2019 F-450 Super Duty Trunk and Cargo Space

The F-450 only comes with the larger eight-foot box (the F-350 and F-250 have smaller standard box sizes) so cargo capacity is a useful 78.5 cubic feet. Together with a maximum payload of 6,190 pounds for the 4x2 Regular Cab, the F-450 can accommodate plenty of passengers, cargo or heavy-duty equipment. Cargo volume behind the front seats is 11.6 cubes in the Regular Cab, and 52.1 in the Crew Cab.

On six-seater models, there is a smaller front console for storing items like mobile phones or wallets. The five-seater has a much larger flow-through center console with cupholders and a lockable storage compartment. On the Crew Cab, you also get partitioned and lockable fold-flat storage at the back. Front map pockets are fitted to all models, while the Crew Cab has map pockets at the back as well. Rear-seat passengers in the Crew Cab have a fold-down center armrest with dual integrated cup holders.

2019 F-450 Super Duty Infotainment and Features

Features

Across the F-450's six trims, there is something for everyone, from the basic XL to the premium Limited. Standard across the range are automatic on/off headlamps and a rearview camera with dynamic hitch assist. The XL has single-zone manual climate control and a 2.3-inch productivity screen, while the XLT adds power windows, a 4.2-inch productivity screen and cruise control. The Lariat trim encompasses ten-way power front seats, a power-sliding rear window, power-adjustable pedals, a reverse sensing system, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Above this, the F-450 gets rather luxurious: features like a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable steering column, heated and cooled front seats, and heated rear outboard seats become available. The Limited Crew Cab also has a twin-panel moonroof.

Infotainment

You'll need to go for the Lariat trim and above to get Ford's user-friendly SYNC 3 infotainment system - below this level, the XL has little more than an AM/FM stereo with four speakers. The XLT adds SYNC voice recognition communications, MP3 compatibility, SiriusXM with a six-month trial subscription, a smart-charging USB port and a 4.2-inch color LCD screen.

From the Lariat and above, SYNC 3 significantly modernizes the F-450's cabin, even if the eight-inch LCD touchscreen is smaller than the screens on some modern competitors. Additional features at this level are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, 911 Assist, two USB charging ports, and FordPass Connect with an embedded 4G LTE modem and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. A Bang and Olufsen premium audio system uses ten speakers (including a subwoofer) and has HD radio as well. From the King Ranch trim and up, you also get voice-activated navigation with integrated SiriusXM Traffic, along with Travel Link, including a five-year subscription.
