2023 Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato First Look Review: Trail Is The New Track

Nobody is going to confuse the exterior of the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato for that of a regular Huracan. Yes, it's clearly from the same family, but the Sterrato's modifications for off-road use have had quite a transformative effect on its appearance.

Some of the ones that jumped out at us via the configurator include Verde Mantis (green), Rosso Mars (red), Arancio Borealis (orange), and Giallo Inti (yellow). The Sportiva specification includes Viola Pasifae (purple) and another green known as Verde Selvans, and you can also choose from matt shades like Bronzo Zenas and Nero Nesoi. Forged Matt Bronze wheels can replace the standard ones, there are multiple brake caliper colors, and several livery options.

The final dimensions of the new Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato coupe reflect its raised ride height and wider tracks. At 49.13 inches in height, it is 3.27 inches taller than the Huracan Evo thanks to a combination of raised ride height and the new roof rails. Compared to the Evo, the body width without the mirrors is up by almost an inch at 77.01 inches, and the Sterrato is 0.25 inches longer at 178.15 inches. The Sterrato's wheelbase is 103.5 inches in length.

Ground clearance is up by 1.73 inches compared to the Evo, and the front/rear track widths have increased by 1.18 and 1.3 inches, respectively.

Whereas the Evo with AWD has a dry weight of 3,134 pounds, that increases to 3,241 lbs for the reinforced Sterrato.

Lamborghini has confirmed that the Huracan Sterrato's engine will be a version of its incredible V10. Displacing 5.2 liters, it produces 602 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque in this application. The V10 directs power to all four wheels and is paired with a seven-speed LDF dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Lamborghini has quoted a 0-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds, half a second off the pace of the Huracan Evo. That's no surprise considering the Sterrato's wider spread of capabilities for off-road use. The 0-124 mph sprint is dispatched in 9.8 seconds (0.8 seconds behind the Evo), and the top speed is 162 mph, far below the Evo's 202 mph. Obviously, those special tires have their limitations.

More importantly, it's the Huracan Sterrato'sability to be thrashed in the wildthat will separate it from virtually every other supercar. It comes with a rear mechanical self-locking differential, all-wheel steering, and an updated LDVI (Lamborghini Integrated Vehicle Dynamics System). Strada and Sport modes have been specifically calibrated, and there is a Rally mode for low-grip conditions, a first for any Huracan.

Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, with six pistons in front and four at the back.

There's a good chance that this will be the least efficient Huracan yet. While EPA data hasn't been released yet, the standard Huracan only achieves 13/18/15 mpg city/highway/combined. Used in anger on the gravel trails it was designed to conquer, don't be surprised if the Sterrato dips into the single digits. This will hamper its range, but this is unlikely to detract from what makes the Sterrato so special. At least the large 21.1-gallon gas tank will provide a more usable range.

Alcantara Verde Sterrato upholstery adorns the seats of the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. As with the exterior, there are more colors than can be covered here, including over 60 leather hues. That includes black leather with contrasting colors like Arancio Dryope (red), Blu Amon (blue), Bianco Leda (white), and Verde Hydra (green). The dashboard and roof lining are finished in full Alcantara, lending the interior a racy look, even if the basic design has aged in recent years. Optionally, Lamborghini will let you add a titanium roll bar, the Sensonum sound system, and even a fire extinguisher.

The Human Machine Interface (HMI) now comes with updated graphics and new features specifically for the Sterrato. The instruments now have a digital inclinometer with a pitch and roll indicator, a steering angle indicator, a geographic coordinate indicator, and a compass. Integration with Amazon Alexa and the ability for Apple Watch users to sync their heart rate with the on-board telemetry system are other cool toys. And we can't think of a more applicable Lamborghini for the brand's Drive Recorder - in the Sterrato, we're sure users will be able to record some fantastic footage in the dirt.

The cargo space in the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato is the same as in the Huracan Evo, which means you only have 3.5 cubic feet of space to play with.
