And the exciting all-electric Polestar 2.
The Polestar brand is newly established, and has thus only reached limited sales globally. But the Geely subsidiary has plans toboost its numbers by over 1,000 percent; the upcoming2023 Polestar 3SUV will certainly draw in new customers, but Polestar will also increase its fleet sales. Earlier this year, Polestarannounced a partnership with Hertzto deliver 65,000 electric vehicles over the next five years. Just a few months later, the all-electricPolestar 2is already arriving at Hertz locations.
But the Polestar 2 isn't the only model you'll be able to rent. ThePolestar 1performance hybrid will also be added to the Dream Fleet.
As a reminder, the Polestar 1 is an extremely limited production vehicle with only1,500 units produced over two model years, so getting the chance to drive one is a rare occurrence. It's the only Polestar model to pair a gasoline engine with three electric motors, combining to deliver 619 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque. As of this writing, the Polestar 1 hasn't been added to the Hertz website, so we can't say how much it will cost to rent for a day. The car had a $155,000 sticker price, so it surely won't be cheap.
Polestar didn't specify how many vehicles it has delivered to Hertz, but says it has already taken 32,000 customer orders for Polestar 2 since the start of 2022, marking a 290 percent increase over 2021. "We're excited to add this first delivery of Polestars to our fleet, expanding the opportunities for Hertz customers to enjoy the experience of driving an electric vehicle," says Darren Arrington, Executive Vice President, Revenue Management and Fleet Acquisition for Hertz.
"Our partnership with Hertz is an exciting milestone that provides the opportunity for a significant number of potential new customers to experience an EV for the first time, and it will be in a Polestar," says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. "With over 55,000 Polestar cars already on the road across our 25 live markets, there is no doubt that our brand is growing at an incredible pace."
