Watch An F1 Driver Put The McLaren Elva To The Test

How can you properly test a supercar like the 2021McLaren Elva? McLaren'slightest-ever road caris too much to handle for most drivers, considering its 4.0-liter twin-turbo produces a face-warping 803 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. And we do mean face-warping because the Elva doesn't come with a windshield. That means when the car launches to 62 mph in under three seconds, and onto its 200 mph top speed, you'll probably want to have a helmet on, or have a taste for bugs.

To properly put the Elva through its paces, McLaren brought in one of its Formula 1 drivers, Lando Norris. Norris, who scored his first podium finish earlier in the 2020 season, came out to his home track of Silverstone to drive this exclusive supercar and attempt (and fail) to drift the Elva on film.

F1 drivers are well-known for their unparalleled ability to pilot a car quickly, but not much else. When it comes to memorizing lines for promotional materials, their driving talents aren't much help. McLaren employs some of its British humor in this video, showing Norris struggle to regurgitate some of the finer details about the Elva.

McLaren only planned to build 399 examples of the Elva, butproduction was cut downeven further to 149 units. The car Norris drove in the video wasn't a standard car either; it was theMcLaren Elva M1A by MSO, which pays homage to the livery used in the 1964 Canadian Sports Car Grand Prix.
