Volkswagen Jetta GLI Gets 40th Anniversary Edition For 2024

Volkswagen is releasing a special edition of the 2024Jetta GLIfor the performance sedan's 40th anniversary. Unsurprisingly called the 'Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary Edition', it will be limited to just 1,984 units for the US market to commemorate the GLI'sdebut in 1984. The package will feature exterior and interior design upgrades based on the GLI Autobahn trim (with a few features removed) to ensure the "GTI with a trunk" looks great just in time for its 40th birthday.

Throughout the Jetta'sseven distinct generations, it has consistently proven to be a competent bargain in the sedan segment. Comfortable, stylish, and sporty, VW believes there's still a placefor it here in the US, even if the Passat has been given the boot. To celebrate the GLI's heritage, VW hasn't given us more power, but rather a slew of stylistic updates to commemorate nearly half a century of existence.

The new edition will be offered in three different colors: Pure Gray, Pure White, and Rising Blue. From there, a blackout package darkens all the usual chrome elements like the grille and window surrounds, making the traditional GLI red trim stand out even more. Black, 18-inch ten-spoke wheels complement the black grille, door handles, mirror caps, and spoiler.

On the inside, you receive "embossed molecular cloth" seats unique to each vehicle produced; a pretty cool touch if you ask us. There are also engraved cupholders with "GLI" in one and "1984" in the other, seat tags and front door sills that say "GLI 40", and a steering wheel with "40" at the six o'clock position.
