Industry News /4 Comments

That massive investment seems to have paid off.

Toyota is currently experiencing the kind of highs that onlythe world's most popular automakercan, and witha new crossover in the works, the Japanese marque is showing no signs of slowing anytime soon. To keep up with demand Stateside, Toyota invested a whopping $1.33 billion into its Kentucky plantback in 2017, but it seems that the plant is justifying its expense.

The company announced this week that the plant has seen its 13-millionth vehicle roll off the line since production started there in 1988. The commemorative vehicle was aRAV4 Hybridfinished in a striking blue hue.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) started producing the RAV4 Hybrid back in January of last year following that aforementioned investment, which has now reached $1.5 billion. This was part of a larger plan by Toyota to invest over $13 billion in its North American manufacturing operations from 2017 to 2021. This goal was achieved a year ahead of schedule and created more than 6,500 jobs.

TMMK alone now employs more than 10,000 people and its powertrain facility is currently on track to producing its 13 millionth engine. These milestones are mighty impressive to the business world, but Toyota is using its success for good, as it has doneso many times before.

The brand is now committing to investing $1.3 million in furthering STEM education and workforce development programs across the Commonwealth, with these funds being used to offer under-resourced youths career opportunities in manufacturing. Grant recipients include Rise STEM Academy for Girls, Jobs for America's Graduates, Black Male Working Academy, Prichard Committee, and Partners for Youth.

More milestones are on the way for the brand too, with TMMK getting ready to celebrate its 35th anniversary and the production of its 10-millionth Camry later this year. Toyota has already achieved other milestoneswith the Sienna minivan, and the more it achieves, the stronger the brand gets. Can anyone overtake Toyota?
