This Speedster Pickup Will Star At 2021 Tokyo Auto Salon

TheTokyo Auto Salonhas had to adapt to the effects of the pandemic and will be closing its doors in person but opening its digital doors to the internet, with a virtual event scheduled for early next year. Since there won't be the same sort of reveal that would normally take place, a number of manufacturers have been teasing some of the new machines they'll be unveiling at the 2021 show. We'll be seeing work fromTRD and Modellistaafter they've had their way with theToyota GR Supraand some other models, but manufacturers likeDaihatsuare bringing some cool projects too.

Five unique offerings will be presented as part of a display called the Daihatsu Village Colourful Carnival. One of these is an extended cab version of a commercial pick-up called the Hijet Jumbo. This has had its roof removed to give it aspeedster-like appearance, but there are new wheels, sporty bucket seats, and lowered suspension too.

There's also the Hijet Jumbo Camper Ver, which is a tiny pick-up that has been enhanced with a tent over the cargo bed, two-tone paintwork, a roof rack, and old-school-style wheels. If the word 'dink' could ever be personified in a vehicle, this would be it.
