This Mysterious Spanish Hypercar Packs Over 1,000-HP

Looks like Koenigsegg and Pagani are about to get a new hypercar rival from Spain.

Theelite club of hypercars packing over 1,000-horsepowerconsisting of cars from Bugatti, Koenigsseg, Hennessey and Zenvo, to name a few, is about to welcome a new member – and it comes from Spain. Spanish automaker Boreas is gearing up to reveal a new mystery hypercar at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans race on June 14 before making an appearance at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month. Very little is known so far, but Boreas has confirmed the hybrid powertrain will produce over 1,000 horsepower.

Offering an electric range of around 62 miles, the hypercar will be 'a hybrid that warrants the name,' a spokesperson toldCar Magazine. Engineering specialist DSD Design and Motorsport is lending its expertise for the project, while the powertrain specifically developed for Boreas is apparently the work of a major manufacturer in the industry. It's being tuned in-house by Boreas' engineers. "What we're proud of is that we've made significant inroads with leading players in the automotive industry," the spokesperson said. Michelin will be sponsoring the hypercar when it makes its public debut at 24 Hours of Le Mans .

"We are quite avant-garde with the use of materials and their application," they continued, hinting at an extensive use of lightweight materials to keep the weight down. A teaser trailer has been released to build up anticipation, offering a brief glimpse of the hypercar showing its sloped roofline which suggests it will be a two-seater.

If you've never heard of Boreas, the name is derived from the Greek god of the north wind who had 12 sons and daughters. As such, production will be limited to only 12 units, each based on the prototype which will be revealed this month and built to customer specifications. "All 12 models will be related but unique to themselves, in performance but also visually," the spokesperson said. Whether Boreas can compete with the likes of Koenigsegg and Pagani remains to be seen, but the project certainly sounds ambitious, particularly if a major manufacturer is involved.
