This 1938 Bugatti Type 57 C Aravis By Gangloff Is A Cheaper Alternative To An Atlantic

Not every sale of a classic car has a price which is disclosed to the public. It has been suspected that there have been sales of Bugatti Type 57s which have broken all pubic records of car auction prices, but we'll never really know for sure. What we do know is that the car you see here, a 1938 Bugatti Type 57 C Aravis, one of four ever made with coachwork by Gangloff, was last sold at auction for $1,375,000, back in 2006. And it is once again up for auction.

As you very probably know, this is not the kind of sum that would set any records, but that is because the Type 57 C isn't really the valuable one, relatively speaking. It is the Type 57 S/C, which is both lowered and supercharged, which goes for real money, particularly the Atlantic-style body. The C is simply supercharged ("C" stands for "compressor"), but it can be genuinely difficult to tell the difference, and it is obviously still a beautiful car. RM Auctions will be auctioning this one off in March at Amelia Island. We don't have official predictions, but something in excess of $2 million is possible.
