The Nissan Frontier Gets Another Price Increase

Trucks /4 Comments

It's not much but it matters.

The all-newNissan Frontieris a much-welcomed departure from its dinosaur predecessor. The Japanese automaker finally has a truck capable of taking on the likes of theToyota Tacomaand Ford Ranger. The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon twins, despite their age, remain competitive but are set to be completely redesigned for either the 2023 or 2024 model year.

And now it's come to our attention that Nissan has increased the Frontier's price tag for model year 2022. The entry-level S 4x2 King Cab now carries a starting price of $29,315, including destination. That's a$300 increase from last Augustwhen the truck first went on sale. Meanwhile, the Crew Cab now begins at $30,615, a $100 increase from before.

Price increases during the model year run are not unusual. Automakers are forced to make adjustments for various reasons related to suppliers and overall production costs. The $300 increase is highly unlikely to deter buyers, especially those in the market for an affordable midsize truck. The 2022 Frontier's price increase still undercuts that of its Tacoma V6 rival.

Comparing apples to apples, the Tacoma V6 SR Access Cab begins at $30,175, nearly $900 more than the Frontier. Unlike the Frontier, the Tacoma does offer a less powerful base engine, a 2.7-liter inline-four. Pricing for that starts off at $26,400.

The V6-only Frontier remains the least expensive six-cylinder midsize truck on the market right now. Frontier shoppers have some additional good news: Nissan is currently offering 0 percent APR financing for 36 months right now. The Tacoma has no similar offers this month, but that's because Toyota doesn't have to provide any due to the truck's popularity. Even late model used examples don't remain on dealership lots for long.

The Frontier could soon become Nissan's sole truck as sales of the full-size Titan continue to plummet. The Titan has had adifficult timecompeting with Detroit's full-size truck offerings. But the Frontier is a different situation and already it's proving to be a sales success.
