The 2022 Chevy Silverado May Have More Torque Than Advertised

Chevrolet has had a stop-start year with its range of pickup trucks due to parts shortages and the ongoingsemiconductor drought, but things are finally back on track, and it's highly popularSilverado 1500pickup truck is getting some impressive updates. One of the most notable changes for 2022 is a power bump for the turbocharged 2.7-liter L3B gas engine. Originally introduced for the 2019 Silverado 1500, the engine was rated at 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 348 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 rpm, but Chevy will now offer this sturdy engine with 420 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm. That's a significant increase over the introductory figures, but some are saying that the new figure could be higher still.

The highly anticipated 2022 Silverado 1500 was unveiled in September and brought with it the impressive 420 lb-ft figure, but GM sources claim that the turbocharged 2.7-liter L3B engine can produce an SAE-certified 430 lb-ft of torque. That might only be 10 lb-ft more, but for car guys, every pound-foot counts. General Motors is clear that its torque figure for the 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output engine is an estimate. But there's clearly room for more.

Since its introduction, the 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine has seen an increase in torque of 72 lb-ft, while the horsepower figure has remained unchanged at a respectable 310 hp.
