Thai Police Spend $3 Million On Tesla Model 3s

They're paying $400,000 for five years per car!

It's not uncommon to hear ofinsane police cars,就像Lamborghini Huracan highway patrol cars, or Kia Stinger GTs as part of the Australian police force. The Dubai police have anentire fleet of exotic hypercarsto serve and protect with, with the values exceeding millions of dollars. But news has now surfaced that police in Thailand have acquired a fleet of sevenTesla Model 3electric sedans on a lease basis for the next five years, paying a whopping $400,000 for each over the five-year period and spending nearly $3 million dollars on the entire setup.

Blink Drive uncovered documentation that suggests the cars will be leased fully loaded with police equipment like police scanners, lights, computer systems with access to vehicle databases and more, but at a cost of $400,000 over the five-year period, they could've bought seven stock Model 3 Performances direct from Tesla at a US MSRP of $56,990. The Model 3 Performance would be ideal, with AWD to take on monsoon rains, a 0-60 mph sprint time of 3.2 seconds, and a range of 322 miles, while the warm weather in Thailand would have no adverse effects on the battery life of the Model 3.

But instead of buying, the units have been leased, and according to sources, the police equipment on board is responsible for doubling the lease price over that period. Teslas are notably more expensive in Thailand than they are in the USA, as the growing economy still relies heavily on fossil fuels for much of its industry. It still sounds insane as far as we're concerned, but the Model 3 itself could make an ideal police car for a number of reasons, not least of all because the perps will never hear the cops sneaking up on them.
