There's something amiss with Tesla's cruise control system.

Tesla is constantly in the headlines, sometimes for good reasons, but increasingly for the not-so-good reasons. The brand currently dominates theever-growing electric car marketand has made massive inroads in China, but a significant recall just issued forModel 3and Model Y vehicles could put a dent in the company's sales figures, and ego. According to sources, the Californian EV company has had to recall 285,000 vehicles in China due to a faulty cruise control system. The issue seems to cause certain vehicles to automatically engage cruise control. The result is cars speeding up without any driver input.

China's State Administration for Market Regulation told the press that the cruise control system on certain Model 3 and Model Y cars can be activated when shifting gears, or accidentally bump the gear selector. The recall will affect 35,665 imported Model 3 cars, and a massive 249,855 Model 3 andModel Yvehicles manufactured in Tesla's Shanghai factory.

The recall will consist of a software update supplied via over-the-air streaming, or in person. This is not the first time the quality of Tesla cars has come under fire in China, as numerous regulatory agencies had previously questioned the overall build quality of these American EVs, as well as safety issues regarding self-driving technology.

Tesla has issued an apology over its official Weibo account, promising to continue working on the quality of its products. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our car owners. In the meantime, Tesla will strictly follow national regulations and keep improving our safety protection, adamantly providing an excellent and safe driving experience to our customers," the automaker said.
