Despite the use of a yoke steering wheel, the test driver managed to put on a show.
TheTesla Model S Plaidhas just outperformed the Porsche Taycan in the hotly contested moose test, proving that it can not only perform well on high-speed tracks (it's the currentNurburgring record holder for electric sedanswith the optional Track Package) but at lower-speed tests of agility, too.
YouTube channel andmoose testspecialists, km77showed what the Plaid could do, even discovering its ability to beat its closest rival. Heading into the test, the EV was fitted with Pilot Sport 4S tires (265/35R21 at the front and 295/30R21 at the rear).
The first part of the test was to see how fast the Model S Plaid could get around cones in a slalom course. The result was 21.8 seconds, slightly slower than the Porsche Taycan GTS (21.5 seconds).
For the moose test, the first pass had an entry speed of 78 km/h (48.5 mph) - slightly faster than the benchmark of 77 km/h (47.8 mph). The EV looked pretty much in control. Surprisingly, theyoke steering wheelwasn't an issue for the driver during the aggressive maneuvers. The Taycan Turbo S alsopassed the test at this speedwithout hitting any cone.
However, the Model S Plaid could still do better, flawlessly passing the 82 km/h (51 mph) test - unlike the Taycan GTS that hitat least three cones.
However, at an entry speed of 84 km/h (52.2 mph), the driver said the steering wheel design could start to pose a safety risk after he tried to correct the oversteer.
The test was narrated in Spanish, so it was challenging to understand the conclusion. Fortunately, one good fellow in the comment section had a translation that says the moose test was conducted with feet off the throttle and brake pedals due to significant speed reduction of the regenerative braking system.
It was late in the test when the testers realized the system could be deactivated in Track mode. Since the Taycan's regenerative braking is less significant, it received lower scores. But that doesn't detract from what the testers called the "exceptional chassis performance" of the Model S Plaid, which earned it high honors in the test.
