Industry News /16 Comments

The American EV manufacturer is off to a great start in 2022.

By now, it's no secret that Tesla is experiencinghigh demand levelsfrom eager consumers. Now that the manufacturer has developed a solid global production network that is still due to expand, it can pump products out faster than manufacturers that have been at the car game for decades. Despite also being subjected to production halts due to the supply chain crisis, it now confirms that sales are up for Q1 2022 compared to the same period last year.

In total, the brand was able to deliver 310,048 units globally. TheTesla Model 3and Y range remained its strongest sellers with a combined figure of 295,324 units while the Model S and X ranges boosted the final figure past the 300,000 mark with their combined deliveries of 14,724 units.Last year this time, the company confirmed a total delivery figure of 184,800.

Looking at production in isolation, it was able to put together 305,407 units for its global consumers which is a record-breaking result for the brand. Regarding the impressive result, company founder Elon Musk tweeted, "This was an *exceptionally* difficult quarter due to supply chain interruptions and China's zero COVID policy. Outstanding work by Tesla team and key suppliers saved the day."

With this result, we question whether Tesla can achieve itsrather ambitious production goalof 20 million units annually by 2030. Musk says that the key to the company's strategy is not just building giga-factories all over the world but also refining the production process.

This is an aspect that Volkswagen can agree with too, as a recent report suggests it would be looking at using asimilar pressing techniqueto form the bodywork of its electric cars. Tesla currently uses this technology for the Model Y, allowing it to construct a car from start to finish in just 10 hours.

Tesla's strong start to the year should come as a glaring alert to manufacturers who have only recently dived into the EV sphere. Now that the supply chain is starting to loosen up, expect the younger auto-giant tomaintain this impressive momentumand break more records.
