The interior of Volvo's first minivan is being described as a "Scandinavian living room."

Volvo has released its first teaser for the EM90, an all-electric minivan that will debut on November 12, 2023. We knew the Swedish automaker wasworking on a people carrier, but this is the first official teaser we've seen.

描述为“全电动premium MPV," the image shows the EM90 will be a substantial motorcar. An expansive panoramic glass roof covers the second and third rows, while a sunroof has been positioned above the front passengers. At the rear, we can see Volvo's signature lengthy taillights and illuminated rear badging.

We expect the front fascia to resemble the new styling on the company's latest electric vehicles, the EX30 andEX90. Volvo refers to the interior as a "Scandinavian living room," meaning we can expect plenty of occupant space, minimalist detailing, high-end touches, and natural light.

Earlier this year,we caught wind that Volvo was working on an electric minivan based on the Zeekr 009, aluxury MPVthat produces a healthy 536 horsepower. Zeekr and Volvo are owned by Geely, the Chinese automotive giant that operates Lotus and Polestar.

While the SUV has practically killed off the minivan in most markets, wealthy Chinese customers can't get enough of luxury vans. The Volvo EM90 will appeal to discerning clients who find the 009 too flashy. It's safe to assume the EM90 will be mechanically similar to its Zeekr-badged cousin. We expect the same twin-motor all-wheel drive setup and the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform to underpin the Volvo.

As mentioned, the EM90 will be unveiled on November 12. On the same day, Chinese customers can pre-order the electric luxury van. Volvo says we can expect additional details to follow in the coming months.

We're guessing the Volvo EM90 will have several available seating configurations. Expect traditional six-, seven-, or eight-seater layouts and a possible four-seater 'executive' layout. This option is available in rivals such as the Lexus LM,revealed earlier this year.

The EM90 won't have the market to itself, though. Aside from the Zeekr and Lexus, Mercedes-Benz also sells its popular V-Class in China. Even Buick has jumped onto the bandwagon with its China-onlyCentury GL8. Volvo will undoubtedly make the interior stand out from the crowd, especially if the new EX90 is anything to go by.

Whether it arrives in America is yet to be seen, but don't hold your breath. Wealthy Americans with large families prefer massive SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade and BMW X7. No matter how fast or luxurious, a minivan doesn't have the same image as a prestigious off-roader. Then again, Volvo might see a market for the EM90 and bring it over after all.
