The British brand is about to reveal its new design direction.

Mini is heading in a new direction with regard to the design of future vehicles and will not be relying as much on the old-school styling cues that have characterized most of its products thus far. We'll see thisnew design directionin a new electric model that was promised to be revealed at the end of this month, but when?

Mini has just announced that its new Concept Aceman will arrive at 5 AM on Wednesday, 27 July. That name is intentionally reminiscent of thelong-dead Mini Paceman, and we've beenexpecting an electric version of this crossoversince March. Now, we'll finally learn what the British automaker intends for the future of its brand.

The new concept car will be unveiled as part of a digital presentation on the BMW Group website. This is all that Mini has revealed so far, but earlier presentations have informed us that the new Mini will be a "crossover model for the premium small car segment."

"The Mini Design DNA will clearly come through in every model of this new generation, leaving its brand affiliation in no doubt whatsoever," said Oliver Heilmer, head of Mini Design. This indicates that there will be a mix of new and old styling elements, and this new ethos will carry over to everything from the all-new concept to the rest of Mini's upcoming offerings. As for its footprint, the Concept Aceman could be around the same size as theCooper Countryman.

The teaser suggests a multifunction front fascia with an integrated "screen" of LED lights, but this may just be conceptual glitter. We're also expecting a new take on interior design, as Mini has previously said that it is looking to reduce the number of components in the car while retaining analog control units where possible. Thus, we'll see multipurpose displays paired with physical controls. Future Mini models have also been promised to be free of leather and short on chrome, so don't expect any animal hide or much traditional brightwork on the Concept Aceman. Making up the difference will be "a progressively increasing share of secondary raw materials as well as natural and recycled materials." Check back here on Wednesday to see what these changes will look like in the new concept.
