斯巴鲁is Planning to Build an EV

Rumor /27 Comments

Just make it better than the Nissan Leaf, please.

Although it may have been a bit late to the hybrid market, Subaru has some big expansion plans in the works. Not only is it currently increasing the size of its Indiana production facility, additional hybrid models are on the way. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid isn't just a one-time thing. In fact, according to Autoguide, Subaru is already making plans to launch a pure EV. With the exception of the BRZ (which will have a second-generation model), Subarus will remain all-wheel-drive – including the eventual EV.

斯巴鲁is well aware that its customers care about both fuel efficiency and off-road capabilities, so it'll be interesting to see which model(s) will get the EV treatment. What you don't have to worry about, fortunately, is a hybrid or EV WRX STI. That car, like the BRZ, will likely stick with a conventional gasoline engine (and manual gearboxes). As is currently the trend with the mainstream Subaru lineup, expect for the continuously variable transmission (CVT) to remain the chosen gearbox. In other words, a dual-clutch is unlikely. The question remains as to which Subies will receive the hybrid or EV treatment. Our best guess is this will begin with the next-generation Impreza, which is due to arrive in either 2016 or 2017.
