斯巴鲁Gives First Good Glimpse Of Its New EV, The Solterra

Teaser /6 Comments

It's coming sometime next year.

A few months ago, Subaru posted ashadowy teaser image of its first electric vehicle. Dubbed the2023 Subaru Solterra, this new electric crossover wasco-developed with the Toyota bZ4X, which was revealed earlier this year in concept form. There's still a lot we don't know about the Solterra and bZ4X, but Subaru just released a few more details along with a more revealing teaser image.

For starters, Subaru confirmed the Solterra will ride on its new e-SUBARU Global Platform, and unsurprisingly pack "ample back-seat and cargo room." Like other Subaru models, the Solterra will include Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and plenty of ground clearance. Subaru goes so far to call this its most technologically advanced model ever.

Sadly, the information stops there, so there are no new details on price, power, or range, but we do get a closer look at the Solterra's styling. Judging by the new teaser image of the rear, the Subaru won't differ too greatly from its Toyota counterpart. The overall rear shape remains intact, though the Solterra's taillights look more conventional and less futuristic than the bZ4X's rear lamps. Whereas the bZ4X has a connecting bar between the taillights, the Solterra does not. It appears as though the Toyota's two-tone color scheme will appear in some form on the Subaru version.

斯巴鲁says the Solterra will go on-sale in mid-2022 as a 2023 model year vehicle, around the same time as the Toyota bZ4X arrives on the market. Toyotadoesn't envision its EV as a volume seller, so it's safe to assume the Subaru will also be a niche model. We'd like to see the Subaru Solterra arrive rated at over 250 miles on a charge with a price in the low-$40,000 price range, making it competitive with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Volkswagen ID.4.
