Spied: See The All-New BMW iX2 Hooked Up To A Tesla Charging Station

Spy Shots /Comments

The little electric crossover has sportier styling than the iX1.

BMW is hard at work getting the second-generationX2ready after theF39 version went out of production last year, and now we have new spy shots of the electric version, the new iX2. While it's not always immediately obvious whether we're looking at a gas- or battery-powered car in spy photos, the dead giveaway here is that the iX2 is hooked up to a Tesla charging station - at least this BMW was actually being charged andnot using the spot as any other parking space.

We can also see the open charging port on the right side of the body, along with a profile that more closely resembles other Sports Activity Coupes like the X4 and X6. By that, we're referring to the sloping roofline, which differs from the first X2's hatchback-like design. A decal on the door signifying this as an electrified vehicle is another obvious sign that this BMW doesn't have gasoline running through its veins.

Compared to earlier spy shots of the iX2, this one is also heavily concealed in a camo wrap. As this latest model was seen testing in snowy conditions, it's wearing thicker rubber and smaller, more practical wheels. A closed-off grille, a rear spoiler, and angled headlights that look similar to those on the all-new X1 are other visible styling details.

According to our spies, this particular iX2 is an xDrive30 model. Based on the new iX1 xDrive30e, that means this iX2 likely has two electric motors producing 308 horsepower and 364 lb-ft of torque. That makes it much more powerful than the base gas-poweredX1and especially powerful for such a small crossover. That power will be directed to all four wheels as this is an xDrive variant. If it matches the iX1, expect a 0-60 mph time of under six seconds and around 75 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes at a fast-charging station.

Being one of BMW's smallest crossovers, it wouldn't surprise us if the iX2 was also available in single-motor guise to start at a lower price point. A version like this making around 250 hp would be quick enough for many.

Of course, there is also a gas-powered X2 on the way. Spy shots from October last year revealed what appeared to be thehigh-performance M35i variant, and that much we could ascertain from its quad exhaust tips, larger brakes, bigger intakes, and lower ride height. This X2 will likely use the same 302-horsepower 2.0-liter engine found in the M235i xDrive Gran Coupe, but that remains to be seen.

More information about the new X2 and iX2 is expected in the months ahead when the crossover twins are expected to be revealed as 2024 models.
