Skateboarding Champ Shows Jay Leno His Badass Subaru WRX STI

Bucky Lasek returns with his heavily modified 2016 Subaru WRX STI.

The斯巴鲁WRX STIhas become something of a favorite among tuners and rally competitors alike. And skaters, as it turns out, judging from this latest episode ofJay Leno's Garage.

The talk-show host's latest guest is Bucky Lasek, a Baltimore native who's made the transition from skateboarding to rallycross. And it's not just on the stage or circuit that he drives his rally machine, either. He had this Subie built for him by Vermont SportsCar – the same outfit that preps his rallycross machines. Only they made this one for the road.

It's a 2016 model, and not a bad place to start. But the boys in Colchester took it that much further, amping it up beyond 400 horsepower and fitting a six-speed, Recaro buckets, COBB electronics... the works. They even mounted a pair of tiny competition-spec side mirrors to give it a racier appearance (and less aerodynamic drag, we'd imagine). It certainly looks the part, and once Jay and Bucky get it out on the open road, it sounds pretty darn good, too – enough for Jay to suggest it sounds more "like a small V8."

Fortunately Bucky has proven himself to have the chops to make the most of its performance potential. Though he's won moreX Gamesmedals on his plank than in a car, he did take a silver medal in Austin back in 2014, and scored a few podiums in the Global RallyCross Championship that same year as well, driving for the斯巴鲁Rally Team USA. That may not quite make him the Bo Jackson or Deoin Sanders of extreme sports, but it's probably – make that "definitely" – a lot better than we could manage on either kind of wheels.
