Schumacher Laps the Ring in F1 Car

Nurburgring /44 Comments

After competing in 308 grands prix - and winning 91 of them - Michael Schumacher takes on last lap in an F1 car. Only this time, it was around the Nurburgring Norschleife.

It's not every day that you see a modern F1 car at the Nurburgring. At least, not on the Nordschleife, anyway. While F1 races are still held on the adjacent grand prix circuit, Formula One left the main track in the 1970s. Which only makes Michael Schumacher's lap of Green Hell in a modern Mercedes-AMG "Silver Arrow" all the more unique. The demonstration lap – held just before the Nurburgring 24-hour race this past weekend – was something of a retirement present to the seven-time world champion in the 2011 W03.

Schumacher was joined by fellow Mercedes drivers in the SLS Black, SLS GT3, E63 and A45 AMG. Unfortunately he wasn't out to set a hot lap time, but if he was, he surely would have obliterated the 6:11.13 time that still belongs to the 1983 Porsche 956.
