Rumored Subaru SVX Successor to be a Hybrid Shooting Brake

From 1991 to 1996, Subaru built a fashionable coupe that may just have been the best-looking car ever to be produced by the company. The Giugiaro-designed SVX was sadly discontinued, and never replaced since. But now, it seems the Japanese automaker is planning a comeback of sorts for the model, according to company sources who were quoted by Motoring. Unlike the SVX, this model will not be a coupe, but rather a shooting brake-shaped hybrid model.

Riding on the SGP (Subaru Global Platform), the car is expected to boast four-wheel drive and a 3.3-liter flat-six engine, mated to a plug-in hybrid system. Total output is expected to be approximately 375 horsepower. According to the sources, the main reason for this model revival is a strong demand on behalf of American Subaru dealers.
