Ride Along As T-Pain Learns How To Drift

The rapper's moving from auto-tune to autocross

RememberT-Pain? The rapper was kind of a big deal a decade ago, carving out a niche for himself with his unique auto-tune style, topping the Billboard charts in 2007, and winning a couple of Grammy awards along the way.

So what's he been up to lately? Learning to drift, that's what. Evidently possessed of plenty of free time and even more fat stacks of cash, the artist bornFaheem Rashad Najmseems to have taken to the fashionable style of motorsport showmanship like a rapper with a record deal takes to high-end champagne, getting his first taste at Road Atlanta.

Now as anyone who's ever broken traction (on purpose) could tell you, drifting isn't something you just pick up on your own with no experience. And T-Pain fortunately had an expert tutor on hand in oneChelsea DeNofa, an experienced Formula Drift competitor and chief instructor at The School of Drift.

The experience saw Teddy Verseti (as the hip-hop artist is sometimes known) start out in Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s福特野马RTRbefore "graduating" to DeNofa'sLS3-swapped Nissan 240SX(a longtimeestablished favoriteamong drifters).

From the ten-minute video the instructor put out, it looks like it was a lot of fun for both of them – even if the learning curve was as steep as the presumable price on Pain's bling.

Now we wouldn't expect the rapper to be challenging the likes of Gittin, DeNofa, Block, or Foust in competitive drift events anytime soon. But judging from how well he seems to have picked up the skills, we won't be surprised to see him making the rounds, in one sense or another, in the coming years.
