It is what a German version of the Dark Knight would drive.

A rare and special version of the 1974 BMW 3.0 CSL is currently up for auction onBring-A-Trailer. Of the 1,265 models built from 1971-75, this particular example is said to be one of the 167 examples made from July 1973 that came with a 3.2-liter inline-six mill and the attention-grabbing "Batmobile" body kit.

Why is it called Batmobile? Is it a replica of the Dark Knight's cars? Well, not exactly, but this classic CSL's looks were beefed up with fins and many other performance-oriented enhancements. Beyond that, the car is also alegendary Bimmer, practically motorsports royalty.

The Batmobile part is then provided by short fins running along the hood, a roof-mounted rear spoiler, a more aggressive-looking air dam, and a massive rear wing.

All these ties into adding a hefty fiberglass rear bumper, fender vents, and chrome wheel well lips. Making its handling match its speed-evoking looks is a set of Bilstein gas-pressured dampers, progressive-rate springs, and disc brakes for all four wheels.

Refurbished in 2019, the exterior and the interior of this particular example of the 1974 3.0 CSL, as far as the pictures go, look immaculate. Its powertrain, meanwhile, is practically fresh with only 29,000 miles on its odometer.

Mind you, the 3.2-liter inline-six was already rebuilt, but it is highly likely that it still has the 206 horsepower output rating that it came with from the factory. A five-speed manual Getrag transmission sends power to its rear wheels.

If you want the car, it currently has a bid of $165,000, with only a few hours of the auction remaining. This might be a more accessible way to get a taste of the CSL since the modern one is considerably more expensive. It's also ultra-limited, withonly 50 made by the German marque.

The sale includes a spare but currently disassembled 3.2-liter inline-six engine and a four-speed gearbox. Also included is a BMW Classic certificate, which confirms the car's production date of October 23, 1973, its engine numbers, and other details.
