Porsche Vision Gran Turismo Is Getting A Wicked New Look

Design /Comments

Now Porsche just needs to do what McLaren did and build it.

Cast your mind back to 1997 when Gran Turismo first came out. Do you remember how impressed you were with the graphics? And how disappointed you were with the lack of Porsches? Many manufacturers realized the marketing potential of being part of the famous racing simulator, but Porsche decided not to partake. Thankfully, RUF carried the flag on its behalf.

Porsche held out until 2017, finally realizing that racing simulators are not just for kids. And even if it were just kids playing it, you're already marketing to an audience that will have the kind of money needed to buy a Porsche 20 years from now. For proof, look at what people are payingfor the ultimate PlayStation-generation car, the R34 Skyline GT-R.

Since Porsche started understanding the potential, it designed anentirely digital racing concept for Gran Turismo 7,我们很快就会看到V的演变ision Gran Turismo hypercar. As you can see, this digital concept has much in common with theTaycan, but it's a lot angrier and far more track-focused.

Porsche recently announced that it would attend Gamescon, the world's largest public trade fair for video games. The display's centerpiece will be thePorsche Vision Gran Turismo show car, but it will change. Well-known street artist, Vexx, will be painting it live at the show. Visitors will then get the chance to drive the latest evolution of the car inGran Turismo 7at the fair.

In addition to the above, the German brand will allow showgoers to test their skills on virtual tracks in actual Porsche racing simulators.

"Porsche has steadily expanded its commitment to the gaming and e-sports community in recent years - our appearance at Gamescom underscores this," says Robert Ader, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Porsche AG. "We have reached an important milestone with the Vision Gran Turismo as the first sports car developed purely for a virtual space. By painting it, Vexx will now give the vehicle a completely new look as well. This is another way for us to showcase our enthusiasm for collaborations with creatives and the art scene, which we see as mutually enriching."

"For me as an artist, it was a unique opportunity to create a completely new design for Porsche," says Vexx. "The look taps into both Porsche's brand identity and gaming themes. I'm excited that the gaming community will be able to drive the vehicle virtually from now on - bringing my graphics to life and making them tangible."

The livery, previewed digitally in Vexx's signature style, includes various cartoonesque and floral elements, all of which are vividly colored. But while it might look the part, there's one thing we want from it that Porsche isn't giving us - a production version.

Last week,McLaren revealed the Solus- a single-seater hypercar with a naturally aspirated V10, which was originally a Vision GT concept. That means the brand took the concept from digital to real life, and it leaves us asking, why can't Porsche do the same?

Unlike the Solus, the Porsche Vision GT is an electric car, and with Porsche steadily developing an electric 718, the tech could be ready to make this concept a reality. We're waiting, Porsche.
