Polestar's Slick New Sedan Caught Hiding In Plain Sight

Almost exactly one year ago, Polestar confirmed plans tolaunch a production-spec versionof its stunningPrecept sedan concept. Its targets will undoubtedly be the likes of the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and Audi e-tron GT. The just-revealed Mercedes EQE is also in the crosshairs.

Polestar is now saying it'll arrive sometime "before 2025" but it'll be after thePolestar 3SUV debuts next year. Meanwhile, development continues and Polestar doesn't want us to forget that. In a recent press release highlighting the brand's R&D capabilities, a single photo was also revealed. Lo and behold, it shows a team of engineers surrounding a Precept prototype. It's definitely not the concept for a number of reasons.

First and foremost, the suicide doors have been replaced by conventional rear doors, which is a shame but unsurprising. There are also flush handles and actual side mirrors instead of cameras. All in all, the concept's general shape firmly remains and that's a good thing. Going from concept to production typically always requires toning down the design. Polestar promises the production car "will take an important step on the journey towards climate neutrality."

We still don't know which specific battery will power the Precept but expect both single- and dual-motor variants. More than likely there'll be at least two battery pack choices.
